**Disclaimer: This book has themes/scenes of abuse and sexual assault. I won't discuss that in my blog, but wanted to give a warning if you are considering reading the book or watching the movie.
I read this book probably three or four years ago and finally got around to watching the movie last night. Honestly, I am the stereotypical book lover who says, "The book was better." I'm not much of a movie watcher. Sadly, I also don't have a great memory for books I've read. Sitting down to watch this movie I didn't even remember much about the book except that I had liked it. During the movie it came back to me and I remembered why I loved the book. I also love a good courtroom drama! This book is a beautiful story of a girl named, Kya, who was abandoned, misunderstood and unloved. Through it all though she becomes a strong woman who, though guarded, learns to love and be loved. The storyline is riveting and your heart just breaks for Kya. Two of my favorite characters in the book are Mabel and Jumpin'. They are a wonderful example of loving your neighbor with empathy and empowerment, not pity.
Where the Crawdads Sing is a beautiful, mysterious story that leaves you guessing until the very end.
