With Christmas approaching here are 5 of my favorite classic picture books for children that aren't as well known. If you're looking for something different, books a little bit off the beaten path, these are great read alouds.
A House is a House for Me by Mary Ann Hoberman. This is a fun book that explores different types of houses for people, animals and even everyday objects.
Dr De Soto by William Steig. Dr De Soto is a mouse who is a dentist. He has a strict rule that he doesn't take on patients who are dangerous to mice, until one day he decides to help out a fox with a bad toothache. Can Dr De Soto outfox the fox or will he end up being a tasty little morsel for the fox?
Norman the Doorman by Don Freeman. Norman is the faithful doorman at a museum. One day he decides to enter the art contest. Norman might win the art contest or he might get caught by the sharp-eyed guard!
Pickle Chiffon Pie by Jolly Roger Bradfield. Three princes are on a quest to find the most unusual thing in the forest to win the hand of the princess. This is a silly, wholesome fairy tale with a sweet ending.
Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag. This book is one that I used to read to my kids when they were little! It's such a fun, silly book!
